The creativity of drawing, carving and painting started at a very young age for James.
Age 14 began the wood carvings. Cottonwood roots and cedar being among his favorites. He has also been known to do stone work evident in his ring jewelry and sculptures.
His only formal training, if we will call it that, was in art classes in school where his talent was immediately recognized and he always felt comfortable. He knew he always wanted to draw and is always observing others.
Pastels lead to acrylics. He enjoys the quick drying time and also the ability to layer the acrylics. The subject matter has been constant. You will witness the faces of Indigenous people come alive and the landscapes will pull you into them.
