James Fäks

“I believe that creativity comes from knowing how to tie my eagle feathers and the need to create also comes from that. It is my connection to something that is as old as the human spirit.”

James Fäks ( pronounced: Fox ) is a person of duality. He lives within the white world, yet his heritage is Indigeneous.

James was born on an Indian Reservation in Northern Montana in bitter non forgiving cold and perseverance was learned very young. Tough and extraordinary circumstances will always bring out a persons true character and James survived as a true warrior does, with strength, courage, honor, bravery, compassion, fortitude and wisdom. James has full memories of his upbringing, learning the traditional ways, dancing, Pow Wows, prayer pipes, sweat lodges, purification ceremonies, vision quests, martial arts, to name a few. He understands the logic of how we came to be and reminisces on when the Elders told him the creation stories. James strives to keep these traditional ways alive. He still speaks and prays in his native language, Six-ika. He has two lovely daughters and one divine granddaughter, with another on the way.  Through his own blood, with those fortunate enough to come in contact with him and those able to own a piece of him through his creations, the spirit of his life will continue.

James Fäks is a member for life of the Old World Sundance Society. The popularly known name Sun Dance relates to a ceremony for the earth. With over four years preparations, complete fasting and dancing for 4 days this dance symbolizes the ultimate gift of Sacrifice. A Sun Dancer offers the one gift that is most meaningful, the gift of self. James Fäks symbolizes Sacrifice and is giving in each and every one of his creations.

The creative spirit was awakened very young for James. At age 5 he was already hearing the music with original tunes playing in his head. At age 28 his jewelry pieces sold in Sante Fe, New Mexico under the Native American portal, at age 33 he began painting his thoughts into creations on canvas. At age 45 his first book was written.

James Fäks did not, nor could he ever write these words about himself. Humbleness is what he practices. To just get him to approve these words was quite a task. He also has a brilliant sense of humor. As he said “He would not toot his own horn unless it’s a sax’s.” Humble is what James Fäks is all about.
